Tomball, Texas, established in the mid-1800s by European settlers, was initially a farming and ranching community. The arrival of the Trinity & Brazos Valley Railroad in 1907, facilitated by attorney and former congressman Thomas Henry Ball, transformed the area into a vital railroad hub. In honor of Ball's contributions, the town was renamed "Tomball" on December 2, 1907.
The discovery of oil on May 27, 1933, earned Tomball the nickname "Oiltown USA." This oil boom attracted numerous energy companies, leading to significant economic growth. A notable agreement with Humble Oil Company (now Exxon) provided residents with free water and natural gas in exchange for drilling rights within the city limits, a deal that lasted until 1988.
